Jones Earns Bronze at 2017 World Rowing Championships

Sarasota, Fla. – Former Lady Vol rower Mary Jones made her way onto the podium at the 2017 World Rowing Championships over the weekend, earning a bronze medal for the United States with a time of 7:42.450.
Jones advanced to the A Final of the Women's Lightweight Single Sculls event on Friday, Sept. 29 after finishing second behind Denise Walsh of the Republic of Ireland in the semifinals the previous day. Jones would go on to finish ahead of Walsh in the finals, with South Africa and the Netherlands taking gold and silver, respectively. Kirsten McCann of South Africa posted the top time of 7:38.780.
Current Tennessee rower, Anneta Kyridou, was also in action over the weekend. Representing Greece in the Women's Double Sculls event, Kyridou and partner Nikolaidou Aikaterini were one of 12 teams that advanced to the semifinals. The pair finished sixth in their group with a time of 7:17.120. New Zealand won the semifinal with a time of 6:54.380 and went on to take gold the following day.
On Sunday, Kyridou and Aikaterini competed in the B Final, finishing sixth with a time of 7:28.290. The Czech Republic took first in that final with a time of 7:05.300.
