UT Freshmen Wilcox, Roswall Tie For Eighth

Short-Handed Vols Finish Fifth In Team Standings
JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Redshirt freshman Sean Wilcox and true freshman Chase Roswall earned a tie for eighth place in the individual standings, and the #15/11-ranked Tennessee men wound up tied for fifth in the team race Sunday, as the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate came to a close.
Penn State took top honors at the Blackthorn Club at The Ridge with a 31-under score of 833, followed by #17/17 Kent State (842), #46/46 Louisville (843) and #5/5 Missouri (846) rounding out the top four. After a scoring input error by a tournament official initially resulted in Coastal Carolina taking fifth and UT sixth, the corrected results revealed a fifth-place tie between the teams at 11-under (853) That change means the Vols have opened a season with three straight top-five finishes for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign.
The Vols, who entered the weekend with senior and No. 1 player Lorenzo Scalise playing in the Italian Open, lost sophomore and No. 4 player Jake Meenhorst Saturday due to injury. With Roswall competing this weekend as an individual, that left UT with only four players available to contribute to the team scoring total on Sunday.
Despite carding a 74 on the final day, Wilcox completed the tournament at 8-under (208). Entering as the team's No. 5 player, the product of Frisco, Texas, ended up as Tennessee's top finisher in his first time playing in the lineup.
Roswall, meanwhile, turned in the best tournament of his young career. The Bristol native's 8-under tally for the weekend included a 70-68-70 performance over the three rounds.
Sophomore Rhys Nevin rebounded in fine fashion on the final day, closing the tournament with a 70 that matched-his first-round score. The native of Cheshire, England, wound up 2-under for the tourney at 214 and tied for 20th place.
True freshman Spencer Cross and sophomore Brayden Garrison tied for 25th and 31st, respectively. Cross, the standout from Sevierville, was 1-under for the weekend at 215, while Garrison, from Nolensville, was even at 216.
Tennessee will play its final tournament of the fall Oct. 29-31, as the Vols travel to Charleston, S.C., to compete in the East Bay Deli Classic.
