COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Tennessee's Molly Hannis, Sean Lehane, David Heron and Alex Meyer were named to the 2016-17 USA Swimming National Team, the national governing body of swimming announced.
Hannis, who competed for Team USA at the Rio Games, was honored for her performance in both the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke events during the year. She qualified for the Olympics in the 200 breaststroke, placing 16th overall.
Her top times came at the Olympic Trials, clocking 1 minute, 6.24 seconds in the 100 breaststroke semifinals and 2:24.39 in the 200 breaststroke finals, where she came from behind to finish second and make the Olympic team.
On the men's side, Lehane was named to the honorary team a second time after he reached the championship final in both the 100 backstroke (54.08) and 200 backstroke (1:56.43) at the U.S. Olympic Trials. He graduated in May with a degree in finance and 20 All-America honors.
Heron, a redshirt junior for the Vols, and Meyer were honored as part of the 10K open water national team. Meyer, a 2012 Olympian who has been training in Knoxville as a member of the Tennessee Aquatics club, announced his retirement at the end of July. Heron has competed in the 1650-yard freestyle at the NCAA championships the last two seasons.
Tennessee begins the 2016-17 swimming and diving schedule with the annual meet at UNC Wilmington on Oct. 7.
