Summer Update: Three Vols Play in Lexington Qualifier

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Over the summer, all nine members of the 2016-17 squad will play in 16 different tournaments.
This week (July 15-22), three Volunteers competed in the US Women's Amateur Championship Qualifier in Lexington, N.C. Rising senior Lucia Polo led the Orange and White in the round, tying for 10th place with a score of 72 (+1). Teleri Hughes tied for 42nd place and Allison Herring tied for 60th place with scores of 76 and 79, respectively.

Rolex Girls Junior Championship (June 13-17)
- Location: Rochester, N.Y. | The Country Club of Rochester
- Competitor: Micheala Williams - 70-72-73-76--291
Incoming freshman Williams placed 3rd in the Rolex Girls Junior Championship with a 72-hole score of 291 (+11). She led the tournament through the second and third round but finished three strokes back due to late bogeys.
Women's Eastern Amateur (June 14-16)
- Location: Bluffton, S.C. | Pinecrest Golf Club
- Competitor: Allison Herring - 82-85-84--251
Herring placed 54th in the Women's Eastern Amateur with a 54-hole score of 251 (+35). Her final tournament of June, the Judson Intercollegiate, is set to begin on Monday, June 27 and run through Thursday, June 30 in Roswell, Ga.
Tennessee Women's Amateur (June 14-18)
- Location: Nashville, Tenn. | Hillwood Country Club
- Competitor: Blakesly Warren - 73-71--144
In the stroke play portion of the Tennessee Women's Amateur, Warren posted 144 (E) to place second. She then advanced through the round of 32, winning her match, 5 and 4, before falling in the round of 16. Warren will be back in action on June 27th at the U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier in John's Creek, Ga.
- Competitor: Teleri Hughes - 78-73--151
Hughes carded seven-over 151 to tie for 11th place in the stroke play portion of the Tennessee Women's Amateur. Following 21 holes of match play, she advanced through the round of 32. Hughes then fell, 1 and 3, in the round of 16. After the Women's Western Amateur, Hughes will travel to Urridavollur, Iceland to compete in the European Ladies' Team Championship (July 5-9) as a member of the Welsh National Team.
Women's Western Amateur (June 20-25)
- Location: Dayton, Ohio | Dayton Country Club
- Competitor: Teleri Hughes - 82-76--158
Hughes posted a score of 158 in the qualifying rounds of the Women's Western Amateur to advance to the first round of match play as part of the third flight. Winning her match, 3 and 2, Hughes advanced to Thursday's round of match play. She did not advance through the round of eight. Hughes travels to Urridavollur, Iceland to compete in the European Ladies' Team Championship on July 5-9 as a member of the Welsh National Team.
U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier (June 27)
- Location: John's Creek, Ga. | St. Ives Country Club
- Competitor: Blakesly Warren - 75
Warren shot 75 in the U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier to tie for 25th place. She carded three birdies in the round, including two on her last nine holes. The top-nine players qualified to play in the U.S. Women's Amateur in August. Warren's next tournament, the Tennessee Women's Open, begins on July 28th.
U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier (June 28)
- Location: Bethesda, Md. | Kenwood Country Club
- Competitor: Shannon Brooks - 70
Brooks qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur in August with a score of 70 (T2) at the qualifying tournament in Bethesda, Md. She is one of five players to advance from the qualifier. Brooks will be in action again at the Virginia Women's Amateur on July 18-22.
Michigan PGA Women's Open (June 27-29)
- Location: Thompsonville, Mich. | Crystal Mountain Golf Club
- Competitor: Hannah Pietila - 77-84-77--238
Hannah Pietila carded 77 in the final round of the Michigan PGA Women's Open, duplicating her first round score, to finish the tournament with a 54-hole score of 238 (T59). The next tournament she will compete at is the U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier in Dayton, Ohio on July 7.
- Competitor: Emmie Pietila - 87-84-70--241
Emmie Pietila recorded a 54-hole score of 241 (+25) to tie for 64th place in the Michigan PGA Women's Open. She shot two-under-par in the final round of the tournament. She will be in action again on July 7 in the U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier in Dayton, Ohio.
Judson Intercollegiate (June 27-30)
- Location: Roswell, Ga. | Country Club of Roswell
- Competitor: Allison Herring - 89-85-88--262
Herring finished the Judson Intercollegiate in 57th place (+49). She will be action again on July 18 at the U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier in Lexington, N.C.
Alabama Girls State Junior Championship (June 28-30)
- Location: Birmingham, Ala. | Bent Brook Golf Club
- Competitor: Micheala Williams - 68-65-69--202
Incoming freshman Williams posted an astounding 14-under 202 at the 53rd Alabama Girls State Junior Championship to claim her first AGA individual title. Williams led the 38-player field throughout the entire tournament.
European Ladies' Team Championship (July 5-9)
- Location: Urridavollur, Iceland | Oddur Golf Club
- Competitor: Teleri Hughes - 88-79--167
Hughes finished the two stroke play qualification rounds of the European Ladies' Team Championship with a score of 167. Following the conclusion of the qualifying rounds, the Welsh National Team faced Poland in a round of match play in Flight C. Hughes fell to Poland's Zalewska, four and two. The Knoxville-native will return to the course on Monday, July 18 for the U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier.
U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier (July 7)
- Location: Dayton, Ohio | Walnut Grove Country Club
- Competitors: Hannah Pietila - 74
Pietila tied for 13th place during the US Women's Amateur Qualifier with a score of 74. She will be back in action at the Michigan Women's Amateur on August 8-12.
U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier (July 18)
- Location: Lexington, N.C. | Sapona Ridge Country Club
- Competitor: Lucia Polo - 72
Polo tied for 10th place at the US Women's Amateur Championship Qualifier in Lexington, N.C. She carded four birdies, including three on her last five holes, to finish the tournament with 72 strokes (+1).
- Competitor: Teleri Hughes - 76
Hughes posted 76 in the qualifier to tie for 42nd place. She will be back in action Thursday, July 28-Saturday, July 30 at the Tennessee Women's Open.
- Competitor: Allison Herring - 79
Herring finished the tournament tied for 60th place with a score of 79. She takes to the course again on July 25-28 at the New Jersey Women's Amateur.

Tennessee Women's Open (July 28-30)
