Blaase, Coleman Win Gold at NACAC U23 Championships

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador -- The Tennessee trio of Chelsea Blaase, Christian Coleman and Kali Davis-White stood out on their first day of competition at the IX NACAC U23 Championships at Jorge "El Magico" Gonzalez National Stadium. Blaase and Coleman took gold for Team USA in their respective races.
Blaase won the women's 10,000 meters with a time of 35:30.87, setting a new NACAC U23 record in the process. She smashed the old record of 35:46.12, which American Sarah Callister ran in 2012. Blaase won by over 47 seconds as she and Team USA teammate Olivia Pratt (36:17.28) gave the Stars and Stripes both the gold and silver.
Coleman also won gold for Team USA, running the second leg of the Americans' winning men's 4x100 squad, which also featured Devin Jenkins (first leg), Kendal Williams (third leg) and Fredrick Kerley (anchor). Team USA won with a time of 38.63 with Jamaica (39.25) and the Bahamas (39.85) rounding out the top three.
Davis-White, competing for Jamaica, took silver in the women's 4x100 as her team clocked in at 43.63. Team USA won with a NACAC U23-record time of 42.93 and the Bahamas finished third in 45.17. Davis-White ran the second leg of the relay, which also included Chanice Bonner (first leg), Sashalee Forbes (third leg) and Sonikqua Walker (anchor). On Sunday, Davis-White will run in the women's 200 meters at 8:05 a.m. CT/9:05 a.m. ET and the women's 4x400 at 11 a.m. CT/noon ET.
