2015-16 NCAA Women's Basketball Attendance
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Lady Vols finished the year with a home attendance average of 10,412, ranking Tennessee second among all NCAA women's basketball programs.
It marks the 22nd-consecutive season UT has finished first or second in home attendance, with the Lady Vols topping the charts 18 times since 1994-95. Tennessee actually saw its numbers climb by 37 per game from 2014-15 to 2015-16.
The Big Orange women, who have averaged more than 10,000 fans at home for the past 20 years, climbing to a high of 16,565 in 1998-99, are one of only two schools that averaged 10K per contest last season. With South Carolina being the other, at 14,364 per game, those programs helped the SEC lead the nation with an average of 4,758 and a record total of 1,108,511.
Tennessee, the winningest program in NCAA history, drew a total of nine crowds larger than 10,000 last season. A count of 12,613 vs. Alabama on Jan. 31 was the largest, followed closely by the total of 12,446 vs. Georgia on Senior Day on Feb. 28.
Since 1978-79, the Lady Vols have drawn 5,468,326 spectators to their home games. On Dec. 9, 1987, they set a (then) world record with 24,563 showing up to see Tennessee battle Texas. UT still holds the record for the largest women's basketball crowd at an on-campus facility, packing in 24,653 to see an epic battle with UConn on Jan. 7, 2006.
In a recently-released report, Tennessee women's basketball was credited with an overall economic impact of $23.7 million on the state and $42.6 million on Knox County.
