KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Recent Tennessee graduate Faith Johnson earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Team for the second consecutive season, the sports information directors’ national organization announced Thursday.
Johnson, who completed her 19-time All-America swimming career with the Vols in March, was one of 15 athletes across numerous sports to earn first-team national academic honors. She had been named to the Academic All-America third team last year.
In May, Johnson graduated with a degree in kinesiology, sporting a 3.94 grade point average. She and fellow swimming senior Amanda Carner earned NCAA postgraduate scholarships, and Johnson was also named CoSIDA Academic All-District Team last month.
Johnson, a native of High Point, North Carolina, excelled in the pool during her four years on Rocky Top. She earned seven SEC championships, tying the program record for most career conference titles. She was a part of two winning NCAA relay teams as a freshman (200-yard medley relay, 200 freestyle relay) to help UT to a program-best third place team finish at the national meet. As a senior, the sprint freestyler was on three SEC champion relay teams as the Vols finished second overall in the team standings.
Tennessee swimmers have earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors the last four seasons. Johnson has been honored the last two years. In 2014, 25-time All-American Lindsay Gendron earned second-team honors, and in 2013, Kelsey Floyd was a first-team award member.
