#SwimTrials16: Hannis, Lehane Advance
June 27, 2016 | Swimming & Diving
OMAHA, Neb. —After strong performances in the preliminary session, Tennessee’s Molly Hannis and Sean Lehane qualified for Monday night's semifinal races at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials at CenturyLink Arena.
Hannis surged late to win her heat of the 100-meter breaststroke in 1 minute, 7.21 seconds, good for the sixth-fastest time in the field to advance to the 16-swimmer semifinal field.
Later in the session, recent graduate Lehane booked his ticket for an evening swim in the 100 backstroke. Though Lehane has won more accolades in the 200 backstroke over his career — including gold at the 2015 Pan Am Games — he dropped the sixth-fastest 100 backstroke swim of the preliminary session in 54.49. It was more than half a second faster than his career best.
Joey Reilman, who will be a sophomore next season, recorded a career-best time of 55.89 to take second in the 15th heat of the 100 backstroke. He finished 27th.
Rising senior Colleen Callahan also competed in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries, swimming a career-best 1:10.67 to win the third heat from the outside lane. She was 53rd overall.
In the women’s 100 backstroke, rising junior Micah Bohon dropped half a second off her seed time to win the second heat of the day in 1:02.67. She finished 55th overall.
