CLOVIS, Calif. -- At the 2016 USA Junior Championships, Tennessee's Ari Cogdell advanced to Sunday's men's 400-meter final after clocking a 46.83 in Saturday's prelims.
Cogdell took second place in the first heat with a time of 46.83 to advance to Sunday's final, which is slated for 6:55 p.m PT. That time was the fourth-fastest time of the prelims. Cogdell's personal-best outdoor 400-meter time is 46.27, which he ran at the 2016 NCAA East Preliminary Round on May 27. The two highest placing finishers in each event earn a spot on the USA National Team.
Cogdell just finished a strong freshman campaign at Tennessee in which he earned USTFCCCA First Team All-America indoor honors and USTFCCCA Second Team All-America outdoor honors for the men's 4x400.
Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Clovis, Calif., is hosting the 2016 USA Junior Championships from June 24-26. Athletes competing at the USA Junior Championships must be at least 14 years old on the day of competition but not turn 20 years old at any time in 2016. Those who qualify for Team USA this week will compete in the 2016 IAAF U20 World Championships (previously known as the World Juniors) from July 19-24 in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
