May 04, 2016 | Men's Golf
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Juan Carlos Serrano Guevara was named to the 2016 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team by the league’s 14 head coaches, the SEC announced Wednesday.
“I am really surprised and honored to receive this award,” Serrano said. “It was a good year in terms of community service. As a team, we managed to see an impact in our community through the work we did. We are looking forward to continuing our work next year in our community.”
Serrano, a junior on the men’s golf team, has served as a member of Tennessee's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, focused on enhancing the student-athlete experience by creating a positive student-athlete image and focusing on potential opportunities.
As a member of the committee, he has volunteered at numerous schools in Knoxville area, reading and spending time with the youth. He also visited the Ronald McDonald House, donated gifts through Operation Christmas Child and served lunch at the Salvation Army.
In addition to his volunteer work, he and other SAAC leaders participated in "Hike the Hill in Heels," a campus event aimed at bringing awareness to sexual assault.
