JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Tennessee's Nathan Strother ran 45.30 in the men's 400 meters on Friday to qualify for the 2016 NCAA Championships in Eugene. That mark is also a 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying mark and an Olympic A standard.
Strother joins Chelsea Blaase (10,000 meters), Felicia Brown (100 meters and 200 meters), Felecia Majors (200 meters and 400 meters), Cassie Wertman (shot put), Jake Blankenship (pole vault) and Christian Coleman (100 meters and 200 meters) as current Vols who have achieved 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying marks. Kali Davis-White (100 meters and 200 meters) has Olympic A Standards and is qualified for Jamaican Olympic Trials.
Strother's 45.30 is his personal best and also the seventh-best mark by an American collegiate runner this year. The time also puts him in a tie with Jamaica's Demish Gaye for 24th in the world in 2016.
