Blaase, Brown Earn Academic All-District Honors

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Chelsea Blaase and Cameron Brown have been named to the 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-District™ Men's and Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Teams, as announced by CoSIDA on Thursday.
The 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ Men's and Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Only first teams were chosen for at-large district recognition, so all honorees will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in June.
Blaase earns Academic All-District 3 honors for the second-straight year as she was an Academic All-District selection and Academic All-American for the 2014-15 school year. Blaase is a kinesiology major and owns a 3.62 cumulative GPA. She has enjoyed a banner 2015-16 athletic season. In the fall, she earned 2015 USTFCCCA Cross Country All-American honors for the second-consecutive year after finishing 14th at the NCAA Championships. Blaase was named a 2016 USTFCCCA First Team Indoor All-American after placing third in the 5,000 meters at NCAA Championships. She was the co-winner of the Cliff Harper Award, given to the top point scorers at SEC Indoor Championships, after she earned SEC titles in the 3,000 meters and the 5,000 meters. Blaase won the 10,000-meter title and finished second in the 5,000 meters at this month's SEC Outdoor Championships and this week she is competing in both events at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla.
Brown is a marketing major with a 3.64 cumulative GPA was named to the Academic All-District 3 team for the first time in his career. He was the 2016 SEC champion in the weight throw and garnered 2016 USTFCCCA First Team Indoor All-American accolades after placing third in the men's weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships with Tennessee-record throw of 23.54 meters (77-2.75). Brown placed eighth in the hammer throw at the SEC Outdoor Championships with a career-best throw of 65.17 meters (213-9) and is currently competing in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla.
