Vols Finish 11th in NCAA Stillwater Regional

STILLWATER, Okla.-- Tennessee's men's golf team ended its season with an 11th-place finish in the NCAA Stillwater Regional at Karsten Creek Golf Club Wednesday.

The Vols finished the 2015-16 season with nine top 10 finishes and three top five finishes including a second place result at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate in March.
Lorenzo Scalise paced the orange and white in all three rounds of the regional, concluding his sophomore season with an even par 72 with four birdies Wednesday. He posted two even rounds in the regional and finished in the top 10 for the second time in his career. Scalise ended six strokes behind UMKC's Antoine Rozner, who earned the individual invitation to the NCAA Championships. Scalise ranked third among individuals not on teams that advanced.
In his final round as a Vol, Chad Merzbacher surged seven spots up the leaderboard with his 1-over 73. The senior carded three birdies and finished the tournament 12-over.
Merzbacher shined in his senior campaign, collecting three top five finishes and six top 10 finishes while averaging 72.27 strokes per round. His season average ranks seventh-best at Tennessee since 1994. For his career, Merzbacher averaged 73 strokes per round, ranking him fourth for career average at Tennessee since 1994.
Senior Michael Nagy birdied two en route to a 4-over 76 in his final round of the season. Shooting a 2-over for the regional, Nagy collected his fourth top 25 finish of the season and 10th as a Vol.
Freshman Nicklas Mattner birdied one in the final round and finished his first NCAA Regional in a tie for 67th. Jack Smith shot 9-over in the final round and finished 73rd.
Oklahoma State won the Stillwater Regional and will advance to the NCAA Championships along with Oklahoma, Clemson, Louisville and Purdue.
