Baseball Time in Tennessee is just 10 days away!
Throughout February, UTSports.com will count down the days leading up to the start of the Vols' 2016 campaign (Feb. 19) with a look back at the many players who donned each jersey No. 30 through No. 1.
For the second consecutive year, the Vols will open the season on the road, as Tennessee travels to Chattanooga, Tenn., to face Memphis for a three-game series (Feb. 19-20). The team will continue playing on the road in the Grand Canyon Classic (Feb. 26-28) before returning home to take on Cincinnati on Wednesday, March 2 in their home opener at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The Big Orange takes to the road again for the Keith LeClair Classic in Greenville, N.C. (March 4-6), later returning to Knoxville for a home matchup against Western Kentucky on March 8. Before Tennessee baseball’s home weekend series vs. UC Irvine on March 11-13, the Vols will also travel to Johnson City, Tenn. for a rubber match against ETSU (March 9).
The Orange & White will host SEC rival Ole Miss the following weekend (March 18-20) for the program's first home conference series. Additionally, Kentucky (April 1-3), Vanderbilt (April 22-24), Florida (May 6-8) and LSU (May 13-15) will make trips to Rocky Top this year.
On the season, the Volunteers, led by Head Coach Dave Serrano and his staff, are scheduled to play 18 of their 56 regular season games against eight 2015 NCAA postseason participants, including College World Series squads Vanderbilt, LSU and Florida.
A total of 17 Volunteers have worn No. 10 in Tennessee Baseball history. Among the group is Assistant Coach Larry Simcox, who reclaimed his No. 10 in 2016 after his son and former UT shortstop, A.J. Simcox, signed to play professionally with the Detroit Tigers organization.
Looking Ahead...

#10 Larry Simcox
Assistant Coach
With nearly 30 years of coaching experience, including 22 years as an assistant in the Southeastern Conference, Larry Simcox brings a wealth of knowledge to the Tennessee program and a well known record of success. Named an assistant coach by Head Coach Dave Serrano in June 2015, Simcox holds the responsibility of hitting instructor, coaching Tennessee's infielders and the third base coach for the Volunteers.
Now on Rocky Top for his second stint as an assistant coach, Simcox previously spent 17 seasons as an assistant on the Vols' coaching staff from 1991-2007. During his first term with UT, he proved to be an instrumental piece in Tennessee's postseason successes, including two SEC Championship titles (1994-95) and three appearances in the College World Series in 1995, 2001 and 2005.
Along with team successes, Simcox has also coached more than 100 players who have signed professional baseball contracts in his career, including former Vols Todd Helton, Joe Randa and Chris Burke. Four players, including current New York Yankee Chase Headley, won SEC batting titles under his tutelage, while 15 players have gone on to play in the Major Leagues. Over the course of 17 seasons, Simcox coached nine first-round draft picks and 25 All-Americans for the Orange & White.
A native of Chattanooga and a longtime resident of the Knoxville area, Simcox was inducted into the Greater Chattanooga Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2013, he was inducted into the Cleveland State Community College Hall of Fame and most-recently, he was recognized by East Ridge High School as its 2014 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee.
