February 15, 2016 | Track & Field
NEW ORLEANS -- Tennessee track and field's men's and women's squads are both ranked in the top 10 of the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I National Team Computer Rankings.
The UT men are No. 2, moving up five spots from Week 3. The Tennessee women have moved up to No. 7 after sitting at No. 14 in last week's rankings.
This week's rankings mark the first time since the 2008 indoor season that both the UT men and women were ranked in the top 10. The men's No. 2 ranking is their highest since a No. 1 ranking in Week 3 of the 2008 indoor season. The women's No. 7 ranking is their highest since being No. 7 in Week 6 of the 2011 indoor season.
Tennessee currently has 13 marks (six men, seven women) that rank in the top 10 nationally.
Tennessee will focus on training this week as the Vols prepare for the 2016 SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships, held Feb. 26-27 at Randal Tyson Track Complex in Fayetteville, Ark.
The Big Orange is coming off of an impressive weekend at the Tyson Invitational, held at the same site as this month's SEC Championships. UT posted four wins (three by the men, one by the women) and 11 top-five finishes (six by the men, five by the women) over two days of competition at Randal Tyson Track Complex.
Christian Coleman dominated the men's side of the Tyson Invitational, winning both the 60 meters and the 200 meters. He clocked a 20.59 in the 200 meters, which ranks third in the nation and fourth in UT history. It was Tennessee's fastest 200-meter time since Rubin Williams set the school record of 20.36 in 2008. Cameron Brown won the men's weight throw with a season-best throw of 75-0.00 (22.86 meters). Brown also had a throw of over 79 feet that did not count due to a foot foul.
Felicia Brown clocked a Tennessee-record 22.81 to win the women's 200 meters and also took eighth in the women's 60 meters.
UT's distance stars shined at the Husky Classic at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash. Chelsea Blaase ran a career-best 15:43.81 in the 5,000 meters on Friday, good for the third-fastest time in the nation. Austin Whitelaw ran a career-best 8:04.51 in the men's 3,000 meters on Saturday.
