TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- No. 16 Tennessee concluded the Florida State Match-up on Sunday in eighth place with a total of 905. No. 34 Florida State regained control of the lead from No. 43 South Carolina and finished the tournament at seven-over. The Gamecocks placed second with a score of 875.
No. 60 Maddie Szeryk of Texas A&M earned medalist honors with a 5-under 211.
After the awards ceremony, head coach Judi Pavon commented on the tournament stating, "This week we just weren't as sharp as we needed to be. I thought we had enough preparation in Knoxville but obviously we need a little more work on short game before we head into competition again."
Sophomore Anna Newell, the ninth ranked player in the nation, led the Vols in two of the three rounds, tying for 13th place with a total score of 222. A two stroke difference separated Newell and Lucia Polo, who tied for 23rd place.
Freshman Shannon Brooks moved up three spots in the final round of the tournament to tie for 29th place. She duplicated her day two score of 75.
Emmie Pietila finished the tournament tied for 41st place at 15-over and Hannah Pietila tied for 65th place.
"For the most part, the girls' ball striking was pretty good but they just didn't score very well. I don't think we are too far away from playing well, so it's just some minor things we will clean up, " added Pavon.
Tennessee will be back in action on March 4 at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.
