XC Central: Hokie Open
November 03, 2016 | Track & Field
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—The Tennessee women’s cross country team is set to compete in the Hokie Open on Friday, Nov. 4. Virginia Tech will host the women’s 4K race beginning at 5:10 p.m. ET at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course in Blacksburg, Va.
This will be the shortest race of the season for the Vols, having competed in two 6K races, two 5K races and one 3-mile competition during the 2016 season.
Tennessee looks to improve upon a 14th place finish at the SEC Championship race last Friday in Fayetteville, Ark. Freshman Megan Murray led the Vols, placing 56th in the 6K with a time of 22:04.0. Murray has been the Vols top finisher in all three races she has competed in this year.
Peighton Meske took 76th at the SEC Championship with a mark of 22:22.70. She has finished among the Vols’ top two in all four races so far in 2016. Cassidy Giles finished fourth for the Vols in Arkansas last week, while setting a 6K personal record with a time of 24:14.60.
This competition was a late add to the Vols schedule after the women were unable to compete at the Commodore Classic on Sept. 17 due to inclement weather. The men’s race was delayed two hours in Nashville, but the men's squad was able to compete, while the women's team elected not to race due to the weather, opening up an additional race date.
