Vols Wrap Up NC State GAC Invite

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Tennessee Volunteers recorded nine top-eight finishes Saturday to conclude the NC State GAC Invitational.
The Tennessee women finished fifth in the team standings with 887.5 points while host NC State won with 1,938. The UT men took sixth with 897 points with NC State taking first with 2,133.
The meet concludes the fall collegiate swimming schedule for the Vols, but several will compete in American and international events over the next month.
Rachel Rubadue led the way for the Vols on Saturday with a second-place finish in the women’s platform with a score of 255.10. Sophomore teammates Emily Pelletier was sixth (231.30) and Sean Meyers was 12th (184.00).
Sophomore Kyle DeCoursey, who was second in the 50 freestyle earlier this meet, took third in the 100 freestyle in a season-best time of 43.14, an NCAA B-cut time.
After a win in the 400 IM and a second-place finish in the 200 IM, freshman Meghan Small took fourth in the 200 backstroke (1:55.27). She had also qualified for the championship final of the 200 butterfly but did not swim.
Freshman Marc Hinawi swam his first college 1650 freestyle, leading the Vols with a fifth-place finish in 15:18.62. David Heron was sixth (15:18.64), Taylor Abbott was 11th (15:26.29) and Sam Rice took 12th (15:28.73).
In women’s distance, senior Morgan Dickson took sixth in the women’s 1650 freestyle in 16:34.17 and freshman Spence Atkins was 11th in 16:45.07.
Junior Sam McHugh, a winner yesterday in the men’s 400 IM, took sixth in the 200 butterfly (1:48.47).
Senior Colleen Callahan followed her second-place performance in the 100 breaststroke Thursday with a seventh-place finish in the women’s 200 breaststroke (2:15.78).
Heather Lundstrom took eighth in the 200 butterfly (2:03.87); she had clocked a time of 1:58.72 in the preliminaries, her second-best time of the season.
In additional top-16 finishes: Matthew Dunphy was 14th (2:04.49) and Ross Dibblin was 15th (2:04.49) in the men’s 200 breaststroke; Micah Bohon was 12th in the women’s 200 backstroke (1:59.54); Joey Reilman was 11th in men’s 200 backstroke (1:48.12); and Michael Howell finished 13th (246.35) and Nick Rusek took 16th (234.55) in the men’s platform competition.
