KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee women's golf program announced Wednesday that it received a signed National Letter of Intent from Mariah Smith. She plans to enroll at UT next fall and will pursue a degree in Chemistry.
"I am delighted that Mariah has chosen to play collegiately at Tennessee," said Head Coach Judi Pavon. "She has become one of the best players in Tennessee over the last year and will be a great addition to our team. She is a very driven young lady and will push her teammates every day to become better. I can't wait for her arrival on Rocky Top next fall."
Smith captained Clarksville High School's women's golf team all four years and led the team to the 2016 TSSAA Division I Class AAA State Championship title. Along the way, the team captured the 10AAA District and 5AAA Regional Championships. Smith also took home medalist honors in all three postseason tournaments. At the state championship, she carded the third-lowest individual score in tournament history with a five-under-par 139 (71, 68).
"I feel very at home at UT," stated Smith. "Coach Judi and Coach Mandy are amazing and the team was very welcoming from the start! I am extremely blessed and thankful to have the opportunity to represent one of the nation's top golf programs and look forward to the next four years!"
In 2016, Smith carded a top-three finish at the Bubba Conlee Invitational and placed seventh at the AJGA Girls Championship. Overall, she has six career AJGA top-10 finishes.
The Tennessee native also posted a third place finish at the TN Girls Junior Amateur in 2015.
