Toussaint, McHugh earn National Honors

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee senior Kira Toussaint and junior Sam McHugh were named the CollegeSwimming.com national swimmers of the week.
Toussaint recorded the top time in the NCAA so far this season in the 100-yard backstroke, reaching the wall in 51.79 seconds against Louisville at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
With the time, she qualified to represent the Netherlands in the FINA Short Course World Championships later this year.
Toussaint also picked up a pair of victories in a double-dual meet against Kentucky and Indiana, winning the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle. Her time of 49.44 in the 100 freestyle ranks 11th nationally.
McHugh won four individual events between the Vols’ meets last week against Louisville at home and Kentucky and top-ranked Indiana on the road. He earned three victories against Louisville in the 200 IM, the 500 freestyle and the 200 butterfly. He won the 200 IM against Kentucky and Indiana.
This is the second time McHugh has earned CollegeSwimming.com’s national swimmer honors, having also earned the award last year.
Tennessee just has one meet this week with the women’s swimming team competing at Vanderbilt on Friday.
