Vols Win Five SEC Swim/Dive Awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- After a season-opening sweep of North Carolina, the Tennessee swimming and diving team won five SEC weekly honors, the conference office announced Tuesday.
On the men's side, Sam McHugh was swimmer of the week and Liam Stone was diver of the week. For the women, Colleen Callahan was swimmer of the week, Rachel Rubadue was diver of the week and Tess Cieplucha was the freshman of the week.
McHugh led the Vols with four individual wins in the 200-yard IM, the 400 IM, the 200 butterfly and the 1,000 freestyle. He swam three NCAA B-cut provisional times and ranks in the top 15 nationally in three events: the 400 IM (3:51.69 - second), the 200 IM (1:48.16 - fourth) and the 200 butterfly (1:47.93 - 12th).
In the diving well, Stone collected a pair of second-place finishes on springboard, finishing with a score of 359.94 on 1 meter and 431.78 on 3 meter. He has the highest recorded scores in the SEC so far this year in both events.
Callahan won three individual events to lead the women: the 200 IM (2:01.73), the 100 breaststroke (1:02.81) and the 200 breaststroke (2:18.15). She also swam the breaststroke leg in the winning 200 medley relay.
Rubadue won two of the three women's diving events. She won the 1-meter springboard with a career-best score of 320.25, which is the fifth-best score in program history. The reigning SEC platform champion won on tower with a score of 317.60 and also placed third on 3 meter (331.20).
Cieplucha collected her first college win in an NCAA B-cut time of 4:17.12, which is good for 11th nationally in the NCAA.
Tennessee returns to action Thursday with a home meet against Louisville. Diving begins at 1 p.m. and the rest of the meet begins at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
