"We had a great team effort on the men's side. Zach Long has been fighting a cold, but put himself out front as our top finisher," Director of Track and Field & Cross Country Beth Alford-Sullivan said following the race. "We packed up well, we had a great debut from Nick Brey who just joined the team this week, and another great performance from Gashaw again. We did a really great job of pack running and want to see that continue to grow in the second half of the year."
The women's team competed with five individuals led by freshman Megan Murray. Murray took 79th overall with a time of 17:58.40 to lead the Vols. Peighton Meske posted a time of 18:17.40 to finish 128th.
"Megan Murray made her debut and was our number one runner, breaking 18 minutes for the women. Murray and Peighton Meske did a great job, it was a really good effort for the team."
"We'll get some rest and recover over fall break and get ready for the rest of October including the SEC Championship at the end of the month."
The UT cross country teams will return to action on Oct. 14 as they compete in the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
