Vols Ready for Road Meet at UGA
January 22, 2016 | Swimming & Diving
ATHENS, Ga. — The Tennessee Volunteers hit the road for their final meet of the swimming and diving regular season, taking on Georgia on Saturday at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
The 1-meter springboard competition starts at 11 a.m. with the full dual meet starting a noon. The meet will air on the SEC Network on Sunday at 8 p.m. It will be the first time the Vols will be featured on TV before next month’s SEC Championships at Missouri.
Tennessee opened the spring season splitting a two-day long course meter meet at Alabama, with the women winning and men losing in a close contest. The UT women are ranked No. 12 nationally by the CSCAA and are 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the SEC. The men, also ranked 12th, are 4-3-1 overall and 2-1 against the conference field.
Georgia’s women are 7-0 overall and are ranked No. 1 nationally. The UGA men’s team is ranked fourth nationally and is 6-1.
Against Alabama earlier this month, senior Harper Bruens led the UT women to a 199-120 victory thanks to four individual victories (one exhibition) and two relay wins. Sophomore Sam McHugh led the men’s squad with three individual wins — including the 200- and 400-meter individual medleys — in the 164.5-154.5 close team loss.
The UT diving squad has already had success at the Gabrielsen Natatorium this month. The Vols won three of six events at the Georgia meet, with Mauricio Robles winning both men’s springboards and Rachel Rubadue remaining unbeaten on platform.
