Annika Intercollegiate
No. 12 Vols Tie for Fourth
September 27, 2015 | Women's Golf
ORLANDO, Fla. --The No. 12 Tennessee women's golf team concluded the first round of the Annika Intercollegiate in a tie for fourth place after shooting a round of 284. Sophomore Anna Newell led the Vols with a score of 69 (-3). Newell ended the day in a seven-way tie for eighth place.
"We had a really good round today. Anytime we break par we have to be happy," stated Head Coach Judi Pavon. "This is a crazy tough field. It's the top 11 ranked teams from last season so we can't afford too many mistakes. Every team is good from top to bottom."
Emmie Pietila and Shannon Brooks both shot one-under, tying for 20th place. The pair recorded six birdies total and Pietila carded Tennessee's only eagle of the day.
Sophomore Blakesly Warren shot a 73 (+1) and tied for 34th place. Lucia Polo finished the round three-over and tied for 47th place.
"We want to play another solid round tomorrow. We didn't play holes four and five very well so we can improve there and just keep our focus on playing our best," added Pavon.
The Vols will be back in action tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. for the second round of the invitational. Live stats will be available at golfstat.com.
