NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee men’s golf program holds 11th place after two rounds of stroke play Friday at the DICK’S Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup in Nashville, Tenn.

The Vols shot a team total of 288 in the morning round and 297 in the afternoon round for a 17-over score entering Saturday’s final round.

Senior Chad Merzbacher’s first round performance placed him in a tie for fourth at 3-under. He birdied five—including three consecutive birdies on holes two through four—and eagled the par-5 7th.

Veteran Michael Nagy birdied four in the first round for a score of 2-over. Sophomore Lorenzo Scalise also shot 2-over in the morning round, which placed both he and Nagy in a tie for 29th.

Although Tennessee finished the morning round in a tie for sixth, it dropped to 11th place after the completion of the second round after shooting a team total of 13-over in the round.

Jack Smith birdied three in the second round, while Nagy and Juan Carlos Serrano Guevara each birdied two.
