Scalise Climbs to Top 25 with Seven Birdies
September 18, 2015 | Men's Golf
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- A seven-birdie round paired with only one bogey propelled sophomore Lorenzo Scalise to the 25th position at the Open D’Italia Friday.
Scalise (-7) entered the round tied for 79th, but he climbed the leaderboard due largely to his performance on his second-nine.
After birdying one and playing bogey free on the back nine, Scalise made the turn at 2-under for the tournament. Scalise then played the front nine 5-under, including four consecutive birdies on holes three through six and six birdies on the front.
Over the course of the tournament, Scalise has recorded nine birdies and only two bogeys—one in each round.
His 7-under score is six behind leader Jens Fahrbring at 13-under. Scalise’s climb of 54 spots Friday ranks among the best in the second round.
Scalise tees off at the Open D’Italia at 4 a.m. ET alongside Francesco Molinari and Kristoffer Broberg. Coverage begins on the Golf Channel at Noon ET.
