Freshman Trio Honored by USA Swimming

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Three freshmen on the Tennessee swimming and diving squad were named to the 2015-16 USA Swimming National Junior Team.
Freestyler Kyle DeCoursey (Yorktown, Ind.), breaststroker Ethan Browne (Nashville, Tenn.) and backstroker Joey Reilman (Medina, Ohio) were the Tennessee representatives on the national list.
The national team is an honor given to the top six swimmers in each Olympic event. The list also includes every Team USA member who competed at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championship.
DeCoursey earned his way to the national team by clocking a preliminary time of 50.36 seconds in the 100-meter freestyle at the NCSA Summer Championships in late July. He won both the 50 and 100 freestyle events at the meet. It was his second 2016 Olympic trials cut, having also made the time in the 50 freestyle.
Another in-state talent for the Vols, Browne's best time in the 200 breaststroke came very recently. He finished the race in 2:14.88 to take second at the 2015 Speedo Junior National Championships on Aug. 2. He also came in second in the 100 breaststroke at the meet (1:02.40). He has made the cut for both events at the Olympic trials.
Reilman's top 200 backstroke time of the season came in March at the IN Speedo Sectionals in Indianapolis, where he finished race in 1:59.90. Like DeCoursey and Browne, Reilman's time was fast enough to earn a spot at the Olympic trials next year. He also has an Olympic qualifying time in the 100 backstroke (56.51).
USA Swimming released the names of its senior national team earlier this month. Senior Sean Lehane, sophomore David Heron and recent graduate Molly Hannis were among those honored.
