COLORADO SPRING, Colo. — Two current members of Tennessee’s swimming and diving team and a recent graduate were named to the 2015-16 USA Swimming National Team, the national governing body announced Tuesday.
Senior Sean Lehane and sophomore David Heron were named to the men’s team, and All-American graduate Molly Hannis was honored on the women’s side. Alex Meyer, a member of Tennessee Aquatics and open water Olympian, was also on the men’s list.
Lehane excelled on the international stage this summer in his signature event, winning the 200-meter backstroke at the Pan American Games in Canada. He set a record in the event in the preliminaries (1:57.11).
Heron had a busy summer in open water competition. He placed sixth in the 5K and 10th in the 25K open water races at the FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia. The United States was awarded for the best open water team performance at the meet.
Hannis, who finished her Tennessee career in March, was on the team for the 200 breaststroke. She represented Team USA this summer at the World University Games in Korea, where she finished sixth in the 200 breaststroke. Hannis still trains in Knoxville as part of Tennessee Aquatics.
In August, Hannis also teamed up with current UT swimmers Faith Johnson, Harper Bruens and Micah Bohon to win the 400 medley relay at the Phillips 66 National Championships.
