KAZAN, Russia -- Tennessee sophomore Liam Stone helped New Zealand to an 11th-place finish Sunday in the 3-meter mixed synchronized diving competition at the FINA World Championhips.
Stone and fellow New Zealander Lizzie Cui finished with a five-dive score of 277.86 in their second competition together. China's Han Wang and Hao Yang won with a score of 339.90.
It was the first time the event has appeared at the FINA World Championships.
"They completely revamped their list from the last time they completed together in May and did a fantastic job," said Tennessee diving coach Dave Parrington, who has coached the New Zealand team at the FINA World Championships. "I'm very pleased and this experience will prove invaluable for both Liam and his teammate."
Stone also finished 21st in the 3-meter diving competition and 24th on the 1-meter board at the world championships.
