May 12, 2015 | Men's Golf
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- For the second time in three seasons on Rocky Top, junior Chad Merzbacher has been named to the 2015 Southeastern Conference Men's Golf Community Service Team, as announced by the league office on Monday.
The conference names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.
The honor marks Merzbacher's second SEC Community Service Team nomination, as the Ohio native also took home the recognition as a freshman in 2013.
As a junior, Merzbacher compiled 15 hours of community service, including attending a Networking at Neyland event and assisting with Volscars filming. He serves as the SAAC representative for men's golf. Merzbacher was also able to maintain a 3.84 GPA, all while leading the team on the course as well. He currently leads the team with a 71.97 stroke average through 35 rounds, 17 of which have been for par or better.
Merzbacher will compete in the NCAA Regional being played at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, California. It is being hosted by University of San Diego and taking place May 14-16.
