OXFORD, Miss. -- No. 12 Tennessee women's golf concluded the first round of the Rebel Intercollegiate in two-way tie for fourth place at the Ole Miss Golf Course (par 72, 6,210 yards).
Despite gusting winds, Tennessee finished with a team total of 292. UT is tied with Memphis and No. 18 Kent State. The field is being led by Furman with a score of 288 (E).
"We had a decent round today," head coach Judi Pavon said. "We made a few mistakes right at the end, but all in all, it was a good round. It was very windy, which made it a little tougher to score out there.
"Lucia [Polo] had a great day shooting one-one under par. Emmie's [Pietila] even par was also a very good round for us."
Polo led the way for the Lady Vols shooting one-under par 71. Polo's round was highlighted with three birdies. She finished the round in a seventh-place tie. Close behind was Emmie Pietila with an even score of 72 for a 13th-place tie. She carded four birdies, including three on her final five holes.
Hannah Pietila shot a 74 (+2). The final counting score of the Lady Vols came from freshman Anna Newell who tallied a final of 75 (+3). Senior AJ Newell carded a 76 (+4).
Freshman Blakesly Warren competed as an individual and finished with a total of 74 (+2). This is the first competition of the spring for Warren.
The second round will commence tomorrow morning at 9:51 a.m. ET.
