POSTGAME NOTES
THE SERIES
- This is the fourth meeting between the two programs.
- Tennessee now has a 4-0 record in the series with the Zags.
- The teams last met on Dec. 30, 2008 when the Lady Vols arrived back in the hometown of Spokane native and former Lady Vol Angie Bjorklund.
- UT has is 12-0 vs. current teams in the West Coast Conference.
- Tennessee is 2-0 vs. teams in the WCC during the NCAA Tournament.
- This season, the Lady Vols are 21-1 vs. unranked teams having only lost to Chattanooga.
- The Lady Vols have a 1,277-284 all-time record in its 70th season,
- Under Holly Warlick, the Lady Vols are 8-2 in NCAA tourney play.
- Tennessee's 30 wins are the most victories in a season under Holly Warlick and its most since 2010-11 (30).
30-WIN SEASON
- The Lady Vols posted their first 30-win season since going 34-3 in 2010-11.
- It is Tennessee's 21st season with 30 or more wins, also an NCAA record.
IN THE NCAA TOURNEY
- The Lady Vols are marking their 34th appearance in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship and is the only program to appear in all 34 tournaments.
- Tennessee is 120-25 all-time in NCAA tournament play.
- The 120 wins during NCAA Tourney play is the most for any program, men's or women's. The No. 1 men's Kentucky team currently has 119 wins and also plays today for a chance to make it 120.
- This was UT's 33rd appearance in the Sweet Sixtheen.
- The Lady Vols are 27-6 all-time in the NCAA Sweet 16.
- Tennessee has reached the Elite Eight its 27th time.
IN OVERTIME
- UT is 30-16 all-time in OT games.
- This marked the first NCAA OT game since UT beat UConn, 88-83, on March 29, 1996 in the Final Four semis.
- This was also the first overtime game of the season.
MAJOR COMEBACK
- In 2012, UT rallied from down 14 to beat Kansas and reach the Elite Eight. They trailed by as much as 17 against the Zags.
- Tennessee trailed by as much as 17, which is the second largest second half deficit of the season.
- The 17-point deficit and comeback ties the record from the UVA game in 1996 at the Elite 8 in Charlottesville.
FOR STARTERS
- Today's starters: Bashaara Graves, Cierra Burdick, Jordan Reynolds, Andraya Carter and Ariel Massengale.
- Not one single Lady Vol has started every game this season. Reynolds has started in all but one game.
- With this group, Tennessee is 7-2.
- The jump ball was controlled by Gonzaga.
- The first Tennessee points were scored by Cierra Burdick on a jumper.
OFF THE BENCH
- Jaime Nared was one of the first Lady Vols off the bench for her fifth straight game.
- Alexa Middleton and Nia Moore were the next players in for Tennessee.
A-MASS CEMENTS NAME INTO RECORD BOOK FOR TREYS
- With three three-point shots against Gonzaga, Ariel Massengale moved into the No. 7 spot for three-point shots made in a single season. She ties with Meighan Simmons (2013-14).
- Massengale has a total of 72 made three-point field goals this season, which moves her past joining Meighan Simmons (2012-13) and Shannon Bobbitt (2006-07) who each had 69.
BURDICK WITH NCAA TOURNEY CAREER NIGHT
- Senior Cierra Burdick carded her ninth double-double of the season and 21st of her career with 22 points and 15 rebounds.
- She grabbed an NCAA-high 15 rebounds and an NCAA-high 21 points.
- Burdick was also 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
OFFENSIVELY SPEAKING
- Four Lady Vols scored in double digits: Cierra Burdick, Ariel Massengale, Jordan Reynolds and Jaime Nared.
- The Lady Vols went on their 33rd run of 10-0 or more in 35 games during a comeback effort going on a 13-0 run.
- Jaime Nared earned a personal NCAA-high 12 points.
- A key for the Lady Vols was their free throw shooting. They were 21-for-22, and had two perfect shooters in Burdick, Massengale, Bashaara Graves and Reynolds.
AT THE HALF
- The Lady Vols and Zags were tied 34-apiece. Ariel Massengale tied it up with a three-pointer with seconds to go in the first half and trailed by as many as nine.
- Tennessee shot 37.1 percent (13-35) while Gonzaga shot 50.0 percent (15-30).
- Tennessee outrebounded the Zags, 21-18.
UP NEXT
- The Lady Vols will face the No. 1 seeded Maryland in the NCAA Elite Eight on Monday, March 30 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN for the chance to reach the Final Four.
