CARLSBAD, CALIF. -- Lorenzo Scalise climbed 17 spots after shooting a 1-under 70 in the second round of the Gifford Collegiate at La Costa Tuesday.

Scalise is 2-over for the tournament and in a tie for 18th. After shooting a 38 on the back nine to start the day, he birdied three consecutive on the front nine and went bogey-free for a 3-under 32 on the second nine. The round of 70 marks his best second-round score of the season.

Tennessee finished the second round 26-over and in 14th after shooting 14-over as a team Tuesday.

Senior Michael Nagy posted two birdies on the day and finished 3-over for the round. He is 5-over for the tournament and in a tie for 33rd.

Chad Merzbacher shot a 4-over 75 in the second round and is 9-over for the tournament. Juan Carlos Serrano Guevara and Jack Smith checked into the clubhouse with scores of 79 Tuesday. Serrano is 10-over overall, while Smith is 15-over.

Tennessee will be paired with Wisconsin and San Jose State for the final round Wednesday. The Vols are set to tee off beginning at 12:10 p.m. ET/9:10 a.m. PT.
