Lehane, Robles Earn Conference Honors
November 03, 2015 | Swimming & Diving
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Tennessee seniors Sean Lehane and Mauricio Robles earned SEC weekly swimming and diving honors, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Lehane, the SEC Swimmer of the Week, remained undefeated this season in backstroke events with four more victories in a dual meet against Louisville and a quad meet featuring Indiana, Kentucky and North Carolina.
Lehane won the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events in both meets. His time of 1 minute, 42.84 seconds, in the 200 backstroke against Louisville was the fastest in the NCAA this season. He was second in the event last year at the NCAA championships.
In addition to earning conference honors, Lehane was named the national and conference swimmer of the week by CollegeSwimming.com. He is the second Vol this year to earn that honor. Sam McHugh took that distinction several weeks ago after winning all six of his events in meets at Virginia and Missouri.
On the diving boards, Robles won three of four events during the two meets to earn SEC Diver of the Week honors.
Robles threw down a six-dive score of 417.40 in the 1-meter competition at the quad meet, the second-best score in the event in Tennessee history. The only higher score is owned by Robles himself; he scored 421.15 en route to winning the SEC title in the event last season.
