KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee swimming and diving team wraps up the fall collegiate swimming schedule with the three-day Tennessee Invite this weekend at Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
The meet runs Friday through Sunday. Preliminary competition begins each morning at 10 a.m. Final sessions on Friday and Saturday start with one diving final at 5 p.m. and the main session at 6 p.m. Sunday's finals are at 4:30 p.m.
Admission is free to all sessions.
In addition to the Vols, the meet features Missouri, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and UMass' diving program.
Swimmers have opportunities to record not only NCAA meet qualifying standards but Olympic trial cuts as well. The morning preliminary sessions will take place in Olympic standard long course meters, using the full length of AJIAC's pool. The evening finals will use the NCAA short course yards format.
Friday's Events: Friday marks the first long course competition for Tennessee this semester ... In the morning prelims, take note of senior Faith Johnson, who took fourth in the 50-meter freestyle at the Phillips 66 Summer National Championships in August (25.18). Other LCM events Friday include the 400 free and 200 IM ... All five relays will take place this weekend, including the 200 free relay and 400 medley relay on Friday night.
Saturday's Events: Five LCM races are scheduled for morning prelims: 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back. ... Senior Amanda Carner was seventh last season at NCAAs in the 400y IM (4:05.97 - school record) ... Freshman Madeline Banic ranks 12th in the NCAA in the 100y fly this season (53.57), the third fastest among freshman ... On the men's side, Sam McHugh ranks eighth in the 400y IM (3:52.39) and Sean Lehane is 14th in the 100y back (47.65) ... This is the first meet back for Joey Reilman since competing for USA Swimming at the FINA World Cup in Doha and Dubai.
Sunday's Events: Lehane has excelled at the 200 backstroke, both in LCM and SCY this year. He won the 200-meter backstroke at the Pan American Games this summer. He's the two-time defending SEC champ in the 200-yard backstroke and has the fourth-fastest time in the country this season (1:42.84) ... McHugh is 16th in the 200 fly this season (1:46.29) ... This will be the first meet of the season to feature the 1650-yard freestyle. Evan Pinion holds the school record in the event (14:42.04) and placed eighth at NCAAs last year. Madeline Tegner is UT's women's record holder in the event (15:59.64).
Diving: All three diving competitions will take place over the weekend, starting with the men's 3-meter springboard and women's 1-meter springboard on Friday. ... Sunday marks the first platform competition for Tennessee's divers. Senior Mauricio Robles won the SEC platform title as a freshman in 2012 and is a three-time All-American in the event. ... Robles scored 417.40 on the 1-meter springboard earlier this season, the second-highest score in UT history (he owns the school record of 421.15) ... Sophomore Liam Stone is the school record-holder on the 3-meter springboard (463.50) ... Four UT freshman are scheduled to compete in their first collegiate three-day invite: Nick Rusek, Rachel Rubadue, Sean Meyers and Emily Pelletier.
