Ruth's Chris Tarheel Invitational
Tennessee Ties for Ninth on Day One
October 09, 2015 | Women's Golf
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The Vols finished day one of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational at UNC Finley Golf Course (par 72, 6,379 yards) in a tie for ninth place. No. 7 Duke leads the field at three-under par.
"Today was a bit of a struggle. We didn't get off to a good start at all and the players got a little frustrated early on," said Head Coach Judi Pavon following the conclusion of round one. "They did a great job keeping themselves focused and came back with a good second nine to post a decent score," added Pavon.
No.14 Tennessee is tied with No. 34 South Carolina with a team score of 299.
Freshman Shannon Brooks led the Vols, shooting 72 (E). She is tied for fifth place.
"Shannon played solid all day. She missed a few early birdie opportunities but stayed patient and was three under in her last 10 holes," commented Pavon.
Blakesly Warren tied for 28th place after shooting two-over par. Lucia Polo ended the round with a 76. Both Anna Newell and Emmie Pietila carded rounds of 77.
The Vols will begin round two tomorrow at 9:09 a.m. ET. Live stats will be available at golfstat.com.
