Ruth's Chris Tarheel Invitational
No. 14 Vols Finish Seventh
October 11, 2015 | Women's Golf
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Tennessee concluded the third round of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational at UNC Finley Golf Course (par 72, 6,379 yards) with a score of 293, making the Vols' overall tournament score 887. No. 7 Duke claimed the tournament title for the third straight year and Duke's Leona Maguire won the individual title.
"This was a pretty good tournament for us in another very strong field," commented Head Coach Judi Pavon after the tournament. "We can always be better, but I was pleased with the way the team played."
Freshman Shannon Brooks recorded her best collegiate finish, a tie for seventh place, with scores of 72-76-70. Brooks lead Tennessee with 10 birdies in the tournament.
"Shannon had a really good tournament and finished well against a lot of great players," added Pavon.
As a team, Tennessee tied for first in birdie count (41) with No. 5 Arkansas. The Vols have registered 86 birdies over the past two tournaments.
"We have made a bunch of birdies in the last two tournaments and leading birdies here just means we have the ability to shoot low," commented Pavon. "We need to clean up some of our easy mistakes and we will be right where we want to be."
Both Blakesly Warren and Anna Newell tied for 18th place (+6). The pair recorded third round scores of 76 and 73, respectively. Lucia Polo finished the tournament with a three-day total of 226 in an eight-way tie for 39th place. Emmie Pietila tied for 71st place and carded a final round score of 75.
"This fall has been very busy so we are looking forward to getting a little rest and to working hard before we leave for Vegas," stated Pavon.
The Vols return to action Sunday, Oct. 25 for the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Boulder Nev.
