"Obviously, this wasn't the week we were hoping for," head coach Judi Pavon said. "Because of our low seed coming in, we played in very tough weather conditions all three days and just couldn't manage to shoot any scores around par. It was good to see AJ [Newell] back in the lineup after missing all of the spring recovering from back surgery.
"I want to acknowledge our lone senior Chessey [Thomas] and thank her for her four years as a Lady Vol."
The Lady Vols shot a final round 319 (+31) to miss the cut by eight spots. The field struggled to shoot under-par at the Tumble Creek Club due to brutal weather conditions each day. UT finished with a 54-hole total of 942 (+78), making it the highest Lady Vol final score since the 2002-03 NCAA Regional (948).
Senior Chessey Thomas capped off her four year career as a Tennessee Volunteer in her home state of Washington. The native of Spokane, Wash., led the Lady Vols with a 54-hole total of 234 (+18), finishing tied for 58th place. On the season, Thomas finished as the top Lady Vol in eight of the team's eleven tournaments.
Junior Mason Chen finished No. 2 on the Lady Vols' leaderboard for the first time all season. Chen finished her first NCAA Regional tied for 68th place after shooting a total of 236 (+20).
Junior AJ Newell and freshman Hannah Pietila completed the NCAA Regional tied for 79th place. Both ladies carded 54-hole totals of 238 (+22). Newell completed her first tournament since the Alamo Invitational in October after sitting out the spring season due to injury.
Freshman Lucia Polo wrapped up the UT lineup tied for 94the place after a three day total of 241 (+25).
The top eight teams advanced to the NCAA Championships along with the top two individuals not on an advancing team. The eight teams to advance were: USC, Washington, Arizona State, Oklahoma, Michigan State, Iowa State, Texas A&M, and Northwestern.
