Lady Vols Hang Tough at Bryan National

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Tennessee women's golf team faces tough competition this weekend at the Bryan National Collegiate.
Playing against 13 nationally ranked programs, UT is tied for 12th place after a first round total of 303 (+15) at the Bryan Park Champions Course.
Junior Mason Chen led the way for the Lady Vols shooting a one over par 73 on the course putting her in a tie for 10th place after the first round of action. Fellow junior Daeun Song completed the round shooting a 76 (+4) on the day for a tie for 34th place.
Freshmen Lucia Polo and Hannah Pietila shot 77 (+5) for 55th place. Senior Chessey Thomas rounded out the pack with a six over par 78 scored for the round putting her in a tie for 64th place.
"I fought hard today," said Chen, "but I need to play smarter tomorrow. I need to improve my tee offs and lay up shots and get a lower score on day two."
The Lady Vols have had a history of success at the Bryan National Collegiate. Tennessee has thirteen appearances in the tournament (1998, 2001-Present). The Lady Vols had their best finish in 2012 when they tied for first with Duke.
Back in 2011, Erica Popson won the individual championship with a total score of 220 (+4). Popson was quoted as saying, "Somebody had to win, and I figured I might as well step up."
In addition, Tennessee Lady Vol great Young-A Yang holds the single round tournament record of 65.
Tennessee will begin its second round with a shotgun at 8:30 a.m. (ET) on Saturday morning.
