GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Tennessee senior Molly Hannis captured the gold medal in the 100-yard breaststroke Friday night at the USA Swimming Winter National Championships.
Hannis won her first national title by racing just off her career pace, reaching the wall in 58.42 seconds.
Katie Meili (Columbia) came in second in 58.71 and Micah Lawrence (Auburn), a 2012 Olympian, was third in 58.90.
Hannis' career-best in the 100 breaststroke is 58.22, a time she achieved as both a sophomore and junior.
USA Swimming national title in hand, Hannis is heading into the final stretch of her already illustrious career. She was part of Tennessee's two NCAA medley relay championships in 2013 and is a 10-time All-American and four-time SEC champion.
In two days, Tennessee swimmers have won two maiden national titles. Junior Faith Johnson won the 50 freestyle on Thursday.
