KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee women's golf team added two new golfers for the 2015 class. Head coach Judi Pavon announced that Shannon Brooks and Allison Herring will join the Lady Vols for the 2015-16 season.
"I'm thrilled about our 2015 class," head coach Judi Pavon said. "Shannon Brooks committed early last fall and we have been watching her all summer. She is one of the top players in the class of 2015 and is also a great student. She hits a lot of greens and is a very good putter which makes consistent and gives her opportunities to shoot low. I expect her to make an immediate impact on our team when she arrives next fall."
Brooks officially signed a national letter of intent to join the Lady Vols roster as the #8 ranked player in the nation according to Golfweek. She is a standout from James Madison high school in Vienna, Va. There, she was the 2012 and 2014 Virginia High School League (VHSL) Girls' State Champion. She has earned the 2014 co-ed champion of the VHSL North Region and was the Liberty Conference co-ed champion. She earned VHSL All-State and VHSL co-ed All-Conference honors four times and has been honored regionally three times.
Brooks is a 2014 Rolex Junior All-American and had a top five finish at the AJGA Rolex Tournament of Champions. She is a three-time AJGA Tournament Champion with eight top-five finishes there. In two tournaments, Brooks holds the low round record with twin scores of 64.
Brooks participated in the 2014 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship. She won three out of four matches as a member of the AJGA Wyndham Cup Team. She was the 2013 and 2014 Mid Atlantic PGA Junior Girls' Champion and was a qualifier for the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links. In 2013, Brooks was a Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star team selection and was the PKBGT Tournament of Champions winner.
The Lady Vols second addition, Herring, accepted her offer of admissions to the University of Tennessee. Herring hails from Montgomery Township High School and is from Skillman, N.J. The current senior is an up and coming golfer with a low tournament round of 73. From 19 tournaments in her career, she has finished in the top-10 11 times including three titles. She was selected for the All-State Second Team and All-Area Team by numerous hometown sources. During her junior campaign, Herring was elected to the Skyland Conference First-Team and was second-team during her freshman and sophomore seasons.
"Allison is a raw talent," Pavon said. "She is a very long hitter and a great student of the game. She is on the verge of really breaking through, and I'm excited she will be at Tennessee when that happens. She is also an outstanding student and leader and will be a strong addition to our program."
Both will enroll and begin their careers in Fall of 2015.
