KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Lady Vols golf team jumped up to sixth place at the conclusion of the second round of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships. Tennessee improved 11 shots to finish with a score of 290, the third lowest score of the day.
"Today was a much better round and kept us within reach of the lead. Hannah [Pietila] played great today and Mason and Lucia had solid rounds," head coach Judi Pavon said. "We lost a couple shots on hole 12 and didn't take advantage of hole 15, but all in all a good day. Tomorrow I'd like to see all 5 scores closer to par to give us a chance to try to get the win."
Leading the Lady Vols was once again Hannah Pietila who tied her career low round of 69. She had the lowest round of the day in a field of 90 individuals. Her dominant play moved her up to third place with a combined score of 143 (+1).
Lucia Polo and Mason Chen also improved from the first round and finished in ties for 26th place after shooting a score of 73. A.J. Newell shot another 75 followed by sister Anna Newell who shot her second score of 76.
