The Tennessee women's golf team will kick off its 2013-14 season on Sunday. The Lady Vols will make the roadtrip to Charleston, S.C., for the 11th annual Cougar Classic hosted by the College of Charleston.
"We're excited to start our season and see what we can do," head coach Judi Pavon said. "This first tournament will be a great test for us as we go up against some great competition."
The 2013 Cougar Classic will feature four top-25 teams including Southeastern Conference foes No. 10 Florida and No. 22 LSU.
Last season at the Cougar Classic, the Lady Vols team placed ninth while senior Erica Popson finished the tournament tied for third.
This year Coach Pavon will start an assortment of fresh faces and familiar ones, as well as a mix of veteran and newcomers. The Lady Vols will travel one senior, two juniors, and two freshmen. The Cougar Classic starting five will be: AJ Newell, Chessey Thomas, Hannah Pietila, Lucia Polo, and Mason Chen.

TOURNAMENT NOTES
The Cougar Classic enters its second decade with a tournament edition that embodies the tradition of excellence that tournament founders John Rivers and CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell envisioned with the inception of the tournament in 2003. Fifteen of the 20 teams in this year's tournament field were represented at the 2013 NCAA Regionals. The University of Florida will look to become the second team in tournament history to win back-to-back titles when it defends its 2012 title. Meanwhile, Clemson University will compete in its first-ever tournament as the program embarks on its inaugural season. Florida's Camilla Hedberg returns to defend her individual crown after tying a Cougar Classic-record last season when she shot a 13-under par total of 203. LSU's Austin Ernst also shot 203 on her way to victory in 2011.
Good luck @LadyVol_Golf with their first tournament of the season tmr! #letsgetitstartedright #GBO #VFL
