STARTING BLOCKS
- After opening the 2013 indoor season last week at the Kentucky Invitational, the Tennessee track & field team heads to Blacksburg, Va., to compete in the annual Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
- The 15-team meet gets underway at Rector Field House on Friday at 5 p.m., with the first event of day two slated for an 11 a.m. start. One of the fastest in the nation, Virginia Tech's track is a 200-meter, Mondo-surfaced, banked course.
- In addition to meet host Virginia Tech, Duke, North Carolina State, UNC Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Concord, Davidson, East Carolina, High Point, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, Radford, Liberty, Richmond and the Big Orange are expected to be on hand in Blacksburg.
- Tennessee matched last season's total by producing five event wins, including three on the final day, in the team's seventh-straight season-opening trip to the Kentucky Invitational last week.
