KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Lady Vol golf announced Emmie Pietila as the newest member of the 2012-13 team.
The Brighton, Mich., native heads to UT as the reigning Michigan Women's Amateur champion. She has competed in the Junior PGA Championship and FCWT National Championship as well as qualified for the Optimist International Junior Golf Tournament. Pietila has been participating in Golf Association of Michigan tournaments since she was 15.
"Emmie is a wonderful player and will be a great addition to our team," head coach Judi Pavon said. "She is very strong at all the fundamentals of the game and will be fun to work with. She loves to work on her game and has a great attitude and personality. She originally signed with another school, so we are hoping for a release from her NLI that will allow her to compete this season."
Pietila led the Brighton High School women's golf team to four MHSAA Finals appearances, helping the squad to a fourth-place showing her freshman year. Pietila also finished fourth as an individual in 2007.
"I'm looking forward to being part of a team and being with the girls," Pietila said. "And just looking forward to traveling a lot, working with a trainer, and practicing and working on my golf. They're a very good golf program and I know that it'll help me get to where I want to be with my golf eventually."
Pietella joins Ashlee Pickerell as the class of 2016 representatives on the squad.
