Former Lady Vol Christine Magnuson had one last chance to qualify for her second Olympic Games but fell a fraction of a second short Monday in the final session of the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha, Neb.
Magnuson touched the wall third in the 50-meter freestyle in 24.78 seconds, just .05 seconds behind second-place finisher Kara Lynn Joyce.
The top two swimmers were added to Team USA. Jessica Hardy, who had the fastest time in the preliminaries and semifinals, won the race in 24.50 and Joyce followed in 24.73.
Magnuson had swam the second-best time in the first two rounds of the race. She was a silver medalist in the 100 butterfly at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
