Merritt Advances to 110mH Semifinals

EUGENE, Ore. -- m saw the end of her 2012 Olympic dreams, finishing fifth in her heat in the 400m hurdles semifinal. Her time of 55.87 put her in tenth place overall.
One former Lady Vol advanced into the finals of the 1500 meters. Sarah Bowman finished in 4:10.65, ending up fifth in her heat and eleventh overall. Phoebe Wright, who also competed in the 800m earlier this week, did not advance to the finals after finishing ninth in her heat. She finished in 4:13.65 to end up 21st overall. The finals in the event are on Sunday at 7:23 p.m. ET.
Former Vol Justin Gatlin, who is already qualified for the Olympics in the 100m dash, did not start the semifinal race of the 200m today. Madison, who is headed to London for the 100m, passed on all three of her preliminary jumps in the long jump. She did so because that event was being contested during the 200 meter semifinal and she wanted to devote her focus to that race and not risk injury in the long jump due to inadequate preparation.
