Four Vols to Dive at NCAA Zone B

All four of the Vols divers will be competing for a spot in the national meet when they take to the boards at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships starting Monday in Auburn, Ala.
The top eight men in each of the three diving events advance to the NCAA Championships later this month in Seattle. Scores from the preliminary rounds carry into the finals.
Diving has been the strong suit for the Vols all season, a fact evidenced by the team's performance at the SEC Championships last month. Led by senior SEC Diver of the Year Ryan Helms, the Vols swept all three diving events at the SECs for the first time in program history. Helms took the 1-meter and 3-meter gold medals, while freshman Mauricio Robles won the platform title by more than 50 points, earning SEC Freshman Diver of the Year honors.
However, outside of getting the qualifying scores in each event, no previous diving list counts toward reaching the NCAAs. All that matters is the individual performances in the Zone B Championships.
For SEC Diving Coach of the Year Dave Parrington, Tennessee's four men's divers qualified for the Zone B. Helms, Robles and juniors Jordan Mauney and Brent Sterling are listed in all three events.
Helms, who was named SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year last week, has reached the NCAAs before and is a four-time honorable mention All-American.
