KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee Lady Vol divers will start the new calendar year in Athens, Ga., as the group is slated to compete at the Georgia Diving Invitational Tuesday through Thursday at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
"We are looking forward to heading to Athens, Ga., for what is a really good meet on our schedule," Tennessee head diving coach Dave Parrington said. "Varied spectrums of collegiate teams from around the country compete, so it provides us the opportunity to go against a lot of people we always don't go against."
Prelims on each day will start at 11 a.m. and the the top six divers will advance to the evening finals at 6 p.m. Along with UT and host Georgia, fellow Southeastern Conference members Auburn, Florida, Kentucky and LSU will participate, along with Drexel, Iowa State, Penn State, SMU and Virginia.
Representing the Big Orange will be senior Gabrielle Trudeau, redshirt junior Jodie McGroarty and redshirt sophomore Tori Lamp.
"The meet provide us with a great opportunity to get a lot of diving in in a competitive environment," Parrington said. "Certainly we would like to do as well as we can, but we tend to put in a lot of diving in at this meet. The idea is about training and competing at the same time and getting ready for the championship season, which is really not that far away."
In the finals, which feature a shootout format, each diver will do a dive of his/her choice with the competitor with the lowest score from each round eliminated until two divers remain. The previous round scores, with the best score going last, determine the dive order of each round.
