KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Lady Vol swimming and diving team has released its 2011-12 schedule, which features three regular season events at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center and the 2012 Southeastern Conference Championships.
"Our schedule is somewhat familiar, as we have a lot of the same teams on the schedule that we have had in the past," Lady Vol head coach Matt Kredich said. "That is fun because we are developing some great rivalries with different schools."
The team will start the season with two meets on the road, as the squad travels to Wilmington, N.C. for a dual meet on Sept. 30 and the UNCW Open Water Swim on Oct. 1.
The Lady Vols then take to the waters for the annual Orange and White exhibition meet on Oct.14.
The Big Orange will then host a double dual meet against Big Ten Conference member Indiana and SEC foe Kentucky on Oct. 22. Five days later the team travels to Louisville, Ky., to take on the Cardinals on the 27th.
Tennessee will have its first road SEC dual match on Nov. 4 when the squad travels to Columbia, S.C. to face off against South Carolina. Following a nearly two week hiatus, the team return to action by hosting the annual Tennessee Invitational that will feature Kentucky, Louisville, LSU and Texas A&M over Nov. 16-18.
The lone meet in December will take place in Atlanta, Ga., when UT heads to the campus of Georgia Tech for the USA Swimming Winter Nationals from Dec. 1-3.
January begins with the Big Orange divers traveling to Athens, Ga. for the UGA Diving Invitational over Jan. 3-5. The first dual meet of the New Year will also be on the road, when the team heads to Athens to face off against the Lady Bulldogs on Jan. 21.
Senior Day will be on Jan. 28, when Florida invades Rocky Top to conclude the regular season.
The AJIAC will serve as the host of the SEC Championships Feb. 15-18. It will be the first time the AJIAC hosts the conference meet, as the Student Aquatic Center served host for the conference meet in 2006.
"We can't wait to have SECs here," Kredich said. "Having both our championships meets at a familiar pool is going to be a big plus for us."
Prior to NCAA meets, the Lady Vols will host the Last Chance meet from Feb. 24-25, followed by traveling to Auburn, Ala. for the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships over March 10-12.
Auburn's James E. Martin Aquatics Center will also host the NCAA Women's Championships over March 15-17.
"Our team has really high goals this year and we believe that this could be our best season ever," Kredich said. "We are going to have great challenges all the way through and it is easy for me to see the way we approach each of those challenges, which can lead us to a great championship season."
